Across the ACT, public school Parents & Citizens Associations (P&Cs) are firing up the barbecues at polling booths, offering the iconic “Democracy Sausage” to voters and supporters. It’s a cherished Australian ritual - and one that helps schools thrive.
President of the ACT Council of P&C Associations Liane Joubert says these sizzling stalls are a cornerstone of community fundraising.
“Election day brings people together, and for our P&Cs, it’s a golden opportunity to raise funds that directly benefit local public schools,” she says.
“It’s a great example of community spirit - turning out to vote while supporting students through something as simple and satisfying as a sausage sandwich.”
Even those who’ve already voted are encouraged to stop by and show their support.
“You don’t need a ballot paper to enjoy a democracy sausage,” Ms Joubert added. “Drop by your local school stall, grab a bite, and help fund the extra resources that enrich students’ education. Every dollar makes a difference.”
Proceeds from these volunteer-run barbecues help schools purchase much-needed materials, improve facilities, and support student wellbeing initiatives.
To help voters plan their tasty pit stops, Council has compiled a list of public school sites across the ACT hosting sausage sizzles on election day.
2025 FEDERAL ELECTION BBQ LIST
Ainslie School
We'll be on site from 9am to 3pm (or until the bbq runs out). Voters will be able to purchase sausages (vegan, and gluten free options available), drinks, hashbrowns and cakes.
Amaroo School
Sausages / Baked goods / Soft drinks. We will have Beef / chicken / Vegetarian sausages. Plus gluten free bread option.
Arawang Primary School
Sausage sizzle, Bacon and egg rolls, drinks, Coffee, fairy floss. Gluten free and vegan options.
Bonython Primary School
Democracy sausages and a cake stall! Halal, vegan and gluten free options. 8 – 4.

Parents will be hosting a Sausage Sizzle, Bake Sale and Small Business Hamper Giveaway - there is something for everyone. We will have dairy free, vegan and gluten free options available on the day - both sausages and delicious baked goods.
Caroline Chisholm School
8am to 3pm. Sausage sizzle, egg and bacon rolls, cake stall.
Charles Conder Primary
Bacon & egg rolls, sausage sandwiches, vegetarian sausages, gluten free bread available. Also cake stall operating on the day. We are fundraising for a new bike shelter and literacy resources.

Fadden Primary School
We will be hosting a sausage sizzle and cake stall. Funds raised will be used to support the Fadden Primary School choir. The choir is a P&C initiative, set up to provide an opportunity for students to participate in a choir after school.
Farrer Primary School
We will have a democracy sausage sizzle and bacon & egg rolls (with vegetarian options available). There will also be a bake stall, plant stall and second hand book sale.
Franklin School
Sausages (including halal and vegetarian) and baked goods. From 9-2pm (or until sold out).
Fraser Primary School
Fraser Primary P&C will be running a bbq with sausages and bacon & egg rolls (gluten free bread available) from 8am - 3pm unless sold out earlier. We are also running a cake stall and a book fair.
Giralang Primary School
We will hold a BBQ with democracy sausages and egg & bacon rolls. Vegetarian and gluten free available. Cold drinks & a coffee van. Cake stall and plant stall. Plus we are having our Fete on the same day we will have face painting, hair spray, milkshakes, popcorn, fairy floss, book stall, lob a choc!
Gordon Primary School
We will be running a super sized bake sale. We are not running a BBQ.
Gowrie Primary School
Bake Stall and Sausage Sizzle, with gluten free available. All funds raised will go towards new resources for the school.
Harrison School
The Harrison School P&C will be selling Egg & Bacon sando’s, Sausage sizzle and soft drinks. We are raising money for further school ground improvements and teacher resources.
Isabella Plains Early Childhood School
Bacon and egg rolls and coffee in the morning, as well as sausages, gluten free and vegan options, cold drinks, markets, raffles and more to be confirmed!
Latham Primary School

We will have a BBQ, traditional sausage and bacon & egg plus we will have a vegetarian option of corn fritters. We will have cakes, books, school made preserves, plants and hopefully more.
Neville Bonner Primary School
Egg and Bacon Rolls (until sold out), Democracy sausage sizzle, Cake and Slice Stall. Gluten Free bread for sausage sizzle will be available, Gluten Free Cakes and Slices available, too.
Ngunnawal Primary School

Telopea Park School
As Telopea Park School is a French/Australian school, we will be serving food with a French twist between 8am and 2.30pm. In the early hours, we will have patisseries. Later on we will have a regular sausage sizzle in addition to "Galettes aux saucisses". Cakes will be served all day.
Torrens Primary School
Democracy sausages (including vegan and halal) and baked goods will be available from 9am-2.30pm
Turner Primary School
The Turner Primary P&C is proud to be hosting a democracy sausage sizzle and baked goods sale at Turner School from 8am - 2pm. On offer will be sausage sizzle (with onion and sauce of course), drinks and baked goods. All proceeds will go to support the playground upgrade.

Weetangera Primary School
We are hosting a bbq and bake sale, including gluten free and vegetarian options for both. A coffee van will also be on-site. Bbq and bake sale available from 8am to 2:30pm. All proceeds to go to continued playgroup refurbishments.
Yarralumla Primary School
We will be selling bacon and egg rolls (until sold out) and sausage sandwiches. Vegetarians will be well catered for, as will voters who are thirsty after marking their ballot papers!
