Parents support Gonski action

The ACT Council of Parents and Citizens Associations will be joining teachers and parents in publicly calling for the Federal Government to support the ‘Gonski’ model of school funding.

The Gonski Road Trip, which has been building support for the funding scheme across Australia, arrives in Canberra tomorrow. Canberra parents will be there to meet it and show their support.

“We want to see a strong public education system, right across Australia,” said Council president Viv Pearce.  “The detailed and comprehensive Gonski review has provided the blueprint for how to achieve this and we call on the Abbot Government to follow it through.”

“Funding for schools must be based on need so that resources get to where they are most needed.”

“Here in the ACT, we were signed on for six years of increased funding, through a commitment between the ACT and Federal Governments,” said Ms Pearce. “Now is the time for the Federal Government to honour that commitment by providing the 5th year of funding in the upcoming budget.”

“It is in everyone’s best interests to see well-targeted funding increases to schools across the whole of Australia. We are looking to the Federal Government to do so.”
