At Our P&C - Wrapping Up Success at Hawker Primary P&C

Every year, the Hawker Primary School P&C proves that fundraising can be frightfully fun - and their annual Halloween Fete is the highlight of the school calendar.

HawkerFundraiser4This year, their clever “Wrap a Mummy” campaign didn’t just raise spirits (and funds) - it also earned them the Fundraising Innovation Award at the inaugural ACT Parents P&C Awards!

A Spooky Spin on Fundraising

In the lead-up to the fete, the P&C ran a playful campaign that got the whole school buzzing: “Wrap a Mummy!” Teachers were nominated by their colleagues, and each nominee had a jar in the front office where students and families could “vote” with coins for who they’d most like to see mummified at the fete.

The friendly competition quickly took hold, with posters popping up around the school, campaign chants echoing in the playground, and plenty of laughter as students threw their support behind their favourite staff member.

The winning campaign - “Wrap the Shapps!” - saw Mr Shapps crowned the 2025 Mummy Champion! At the fete, he was ceremoniously wrapped head to toe in recycled toilet paper by gleeful students, cheered on by families and staff.

A Low-Effort Fundraiser That Delivers

The beauty of this initiative lies in its simplicity. With minimal effort, the P&C raised a handsome sum while creating a huge wave of enthusiasm across the school community. It’s a wonderful example of how imagination and teamwork can turn a light-hearted idea into a major success.

The event not only delivered strong fundraising results but also strengthened community spirit - showing that a bit of creativity (and loo paper!) can go a long way.

Recognising Creative Spirit

The “Wrap a Mummy” fundraiser stood out for its originality, inclusivity, and fun - key reasons it was recognised with the Fundraising Innovation Award at the inaugural ACT Parents P&C Awards.

Congratulations to the Hawker Primary School P&C on this well-deserved win - a perfect example of how school communities can wrap up fundraising success with laughter, teamwork, and plenty of heart.
